Wake up early and grab a cup of joe. Call your best friend, your mom, get your husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, kid out of bed. Take someone you love, whomever it may be. Don’t forget a cooler and some sandwiches with really good bread. And wear something you love. Just for you.
If you live near the beach, that’s cool. If it’s a drive, all the better. Put on your shades, and spend the time with great conversation. Bring a bike or two. That’s what a boardwalk’s for! And save your change. If there’s a Ferris wheel nearby you’ll need it.
When you get there pick your spot and plant your umbrella, or even one of these things. They’re cooler than they look. Dig out that book you’ve been meaning to read for just about forever and slather on the sunscreen. Don’t be stingy. That’s your skin. Take care of it.
And then just be.
Sounds simple, but sometimes we forget. And a hot beach on a summer’s day is the best place to remember.
Dip your feet in the water. Build sandcastles. Eat your sandwich and let the dressing drip down your chin. Bike down the beach and feel the wind in your hair, and when the sun goes down pack up your stuff and have a cool drink with someone you care about in a cool place overlooking the ocean.
