Labor Day Weekend!

Can you believe Labor Day Weekend is already here?! For many of us, Labor Day marks the end of summer, the beginning of football season, and most importantly, a day off from work and school! But you probably didn’t stop to think about why Labor Day is truly a holiday celebrated in America.
Labor Day was first celebrated on September 5th of 1882 with a parade to honor labor organizations through the streets of New York City. The Central Labor Union proposed to recognize the first Monday of September as a “workingman’s holiday.” It didn’t become recognized as a national holiday, however, until 1894 when Congress passed an act to legalize this day. Labor Day has more recently become not just a one day recognition, but a weekend long holiday that American families look forward to.
So what are your plans this upcoming Labor Day weekend? Many people enjoy their last bit of summer vacation and head to the beach to get one last fix of tanning and swimming before the colder seasons. Others take it as more of a weekend for rest and relaxation at home to grill out and watch our favorite football teams (my personal favorite- RAVENS!!) before the fall workload bombards us.
