Your Closet

We all DREAM of having a beautiful walk in closet...like Carrie in the first Sex and the City movie!  Wouldn't that be nice! But in the mean time...there are easy ways to make your very own closet at home the envy of all your friends.

Yesterday we talked about building a new wardrobe in the New Year!  While your reorganizing your clothes, why not give your closet a face lift.  There are simple things you can do to make your closet a beautiful space.  An idea we are crazy about is painting the inside of your closet or wall papering it.  Go with a trendy patterned wallpaper or your favorite color paint.  No matter how big or small your closet is...this will definitely add some flair!

Another great idea is to take the doors off your closet.  Keep it open!  This will not only open up your space but it will force you to keep it neat!  With no doors you could add pretty curtains, bead curtains or go the minimalist route and leave it clean and plain!  Go with whatever your style is.

Having a good system of organization can also be an opportunity to add some flavor to  your closet.  Pretty baskets to store things are always a good idea.  Printed boxes are a good way to store clothes that are out of season.  Stop throwing away your shoe boxes!  Keeping shoes in boxes not only makes them easier to organize but also keeps them clean and pretty longer.  Organizers like these can  create extra space in a small closet...or add some color to a huge closet.

You might think we are crazy but color coding your closet is one of the best ways to have your clothes organized.  It makes it much easier to navigate through your wardrobe when it is organized by color.  This goes for every category: shirts, shoes, dresses, pants, jeans, etc!  Try it...trust us you will like it. :)

If you have limited space IN your closet, try buying an old armoire!   You can paint it, leave it antique looking, take the doors off, wall paper it, add lights!  There are so many possibilities!

And finally, it wouldn't be proper to talk about organizing a closet with out the advice of the domestic goddess herself, Martha Stewart.  Here is a link to her 10 tips for organizing a closet.  And here is a link to her advice on outfitting your closet.
