This is one of the coolest brands I have encountered! From the design of the brand book to the buttons on their shirts this company definitely walks to the beat of their own drum. I have been curious about the brand and took the new Pop Up Shop as an opportunity to get to know the creative genius behind the brand! Dres Ladro is a young eccentric artist who is currently living in Berlin, Germany. He designs, constructs, and wears his own clothing, so as to never be seen wearing the same thing as someone else. Although initially reluctant, he has been convinced to develop a niche clothing line based on the blueprints of his designs.

Dres Ladro’s method of design is unique as he creates clothing from the inside out. He pays careful attention to every single detail on the outside as well as the inside of each piece. This includes trimming the interior hem with blazing yellow tape as well as developing a stitch-through collar that always maintains a propped up shape. Even care label tags are unable to escape his artistic touch. –All of which list the number or units made per style, “born date” of each garment, and a witty message on cleaning instructions. The items are all extraordinarily versatile and were truly designed to be worn morning until night… but night may inescapably end up in the morning. Keep reading for a insiders view into the mind behind one of fashions best up and coming designers! And don't forget to check out the Descendant of Thieves Pop Up Shop!
Why is Descendant of Thieves different?
The thing that really sets the brand apart is all of the quiet detailing. Also the limited edition runs. Exclusivity is very important to me. No more than 558 units per style are cut worldwide. In that sense, they really are one in a million. It’s better to be the needle in the haystack than the haystack. The inside care label tells how many units were produced of that particular style.
Tell us about the “Quiet Details”?
Descendant of Thieves is designed to give a man more than what they are paying for. Beyond the high quality Japanese fabrications, there are a lot of quiet or hidden details. Some of the details include slightly angled pockets or Blazing Yellow taping under cuffs, hem, or inside of pockets. Other more engineered details include the unique “Stitch Through Collar” that prevents the collar from rolling over. Also the buttons on forearm placket are positioned at cuff edge so that when the cuffs are flipped back they do not flare. I want the designs to be different, but not shout, "Look at me… I am dying for attention". A man feels a certain sense of pride when someone notices his clothing and that feeling is multiplied immeasurably when the he looks like he is not even trying.
Descendant of Thieves is a really interesting name- LOVE IT! The Italian name translated to English means that you are a descendant of thieves. So…is it true?
Yes it is true my birth name is Ladro, which means Thief. It is NOT true that my family is actually a band of thieves. I want to tell you they are but it is not the case and then I would be a liar and a thief. Many medieval names derive from family occupations. I have a friend name Damien Baker but his mom actually makes amazing bread. I have another friend name Richard Glassblower and his mom…
How did you get into designing clothing? Is it something you have always been interested in?
My mother is a seamstress from the old country. As a child we would go to the textile marketplace in Sicily and she would let me pick out any fabric I wanted. She would then create a pant, shirt, or jacket out of it. I had some crazy clothing growing up but wore with pride. I was beyond mesmerized with building my own wardrobe. It is the ultimate in individuality and self-expression.
What is the inspiration behind your designs?
I only wear my own designs and haven’t worn another designer for over 12 years. I’ve been told it is a bit eccentric but clothing is a very personal experience to me as well as a creative outlet. It was never my intention to sell my clothing designs or to start a brand. After 4-5 exhausting years of hearing my good friend, George’s endless streams of jabber on why we should start a line, I decided there is only one way to shut him up.
You obviously have great personal style from what I have seen. Your shirts are very stylish, you’re your brand creative is very edgy, your "stuff" is just plain cool! You obviously have an eye for style. What advice can you give to the everyday guy to help him in finding his own style?
Find Confidence. Define cool and therein lies confidence. To achieve this a man must feel confident in what they are wearing. Every woman loves a well-dressed man with a strong sense of confidence. A man should take time to look great, but NOT look like they tried too hard... effortless cool. When you look good you feel good. I don't like to spend time looking great, instead I make sure every single piece in my closet looks and fits perfect so it's just grab and go… confidence on tap. However, even if I did take a bit of extra time to get ready I would never let you know.
Do you have to buy expensive clothes to look good?
No, not at all. Still, I could not afford H and M and Zara. The clothes don't last... you can only get in a couple of wears. If you do a cost per wear analysis it becomes very expensive. A $49 shirt worn twice costs $24 each time you wear it… the nipple burn is free. Buy a well made shirt for $95 and wear it 25 times at a cost of $3.80 per wear it. If you can wear it 25 times it will last for much more than that. I have sensitive nipples.
You are never fully dressed with out your ________?
I can't tell you that, it will ruin the first chapter of my novel. -Always wanted to say that
Are you a fan of skinny jeans for men?
For some men yes. For some men no. If everyone wore them it would be horrible. If no one wore them it would be boring.
