blog by Elizabeth, Production Intern
As an intern at South Moon Under, I get to see all the new arrivals each day and write descriptions about them. So I spend a few minutes each day with every new arrival…and I must say this has done a number on my bank account! But regardless I know that I definitely “need” each piece I fall in love with and will wear it throughout the year.
My new absolute favorite pieces, and recent purchases, have been a mix of patterns from polka dots to floral to tribal, ethnic prints. And lucky for me our buyers have predicted that these trends are also here to stay throughout the fall so I am in luck!
The navy and white polka dot short sleeve top by Splendid has been on my mind for a week now and I finally broke down and purchased it today! I plan to wear it with skinny white jeans and wedges in the summer or even a white bandage mini skirt. I also love this top because since polka dots are continuing to be a trend in the fall, I can pair it with skinny black jeans…the J Brand black jeggings are on my list of future purchases…and sky high black heels.
Another favorite piece of mine that I bought right on the spot was the Eight Sixty Kaftan Peasant dress. I wore it over the weekend with my Dolce Vita Zip Back Gladiator sandals (that are now on sale in our shoe section!!) and I cannot tell you how many people asked me about my dress. It’s perfect to wear now to barbeques and outdoor parties but also I can wear this dress into the fall too. Trade in the sandals for a pair of brown boots, such as the Frye Jane Stitch boots, to take this dress from summer to fall.
My final purchase of the week…because after all I am supposed to be saving money for college, not spending it on every new arrival at SMU, was the Nannette Lepore floral ruffle bikini. I know it’s already July but that means we have two months of summer left and all of those pool parties at school so I definitely had to purchase this suit because it was so unique and the first time I had seen it anywhere…so I am hoping my friends don’t all show up in the same suit (which hopefully won’t happen because none of them are lucky enough to live near a South Moon Under like I am!). Bandeaus are my favorite style of swimsuit because I absolutely hate tan lines and haven’t bought a triangle bikini in years just to avoid the lines! So not only is this suit a bandeau but the floral print throughout the suit stands out and will be a splash of color when I’m standing next to every other person in their usual black bikini. I also am obsessed with the ruffles on the top and around the bottom of the suit because it adds a fun and flirty touch to the bold floral print!
I wonder what will come in this week that I will “need” to have?! Can’t wait to find out!
